Chakras & Chai


Happy December friends! I've got some new favorites and things going on that I want to share with you. Recipe, Yoga, Practice... recipe... >>I found my new favorite winter drink! GOLDEN MYLK CHAI - It's from the best Ayurveda cookbook I own, called Eat Feel Fresh by Sahara Rose Ketabi. It's pretty "crunchy" if you know what I mean... but a great gift for yourself if you're into seasonal clean eating for your Dosha ;) "GOLDEN MYLK CHAI 1 tsp ground turmeric 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground ginger 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper 1/4 tsp ashwagandha powder (optional) 3/4 cup hot water 1/4 cup non dairy (or dairy) milk 4 drops liquid sweetener or 1 tsp coconut sugar 1. In a mug, mix together the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and ashwagandha, if using. 2. Add the hot water and stir to combine. Add the non-dairy milk, warmed if desired, and stir well or blend with an electric frother. 3. Stir in sweetener and Enjoy!" -Eat Feel Fresh *I put it all in a mason jar and just shake it up! *I don't use the ashwagandha because I don't have it - YET (it's said to reduce anxiety and stress). *I use almond milk bc I love the nutty taste, but you can use whatever you've got *I've totally switched from processed white sugar to coconut sugar. I'm trying to cut sugar out completely, but when needed, I'm telling myself it's better for me ;) Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory and all these spices are warming! Which means this is perfect first thing in the morning to get things moving OR for those cold winter nights, especially if your body is particularly achy and sore during this time of the year. yoga... >>Chakra Activation Yoga - my newest offering. (Thursdays @ Inhale Northside 6-7:15pm) Officially certified through my teacher, Brooke Smokelin as of November. For me, activating the chakras (energy centers) is one of the main goals of yoga. So to streamline the process and make that our goal in class just makes total sense. And Brooke is great! She teaches Chakra Activation Workshops all over Pittsburgh and throughout the country. And if you get the chance, you should also check out one of her crystal singing bowl sound baths. It will knock your socks off! practice... >>Here's a simple practice to help you notice your energy and get a better sense of what it may feel like inside your body as well aka your chakras. From the world of Chakra Activation Yoga... Prana Play: (and if you've been to my classes, you've probably already done it.) Start in an easy seated position and close your eyes (for the whole time). Start to rub your palms together in front of your heart, creating heat and friction with long deep breathing for about 30 seconds. Then lift your palms over your head while still rubbing for 30 more seconds. Bring your hands back in front of your heart and stop rubbing. As you inhale, let the palms start to separate away from each other. Notice any sensations between your hands.Exhale and let your palms come back towards each other without touching. Continue deep long breaths while pulsing your palms towards and away from each other with the rhythm of the breath. Just play. What does it feel like? This is your energy today, in this moment. Check in with it daily or in different moments and see if it changes. Whether it's a pulsation, a tingle, a static feeling, magnetic, warm, electric, sticky.. etc!? (you tell me?) those are the feelings we look to perceive inside the body when we start activating the chakras! It's exciting stuff. Thanks for being here
