A Cold Day at Riverview Park

“….and in that grand moment, the sun shined on us.” We gathered together in anticipation of adventure and connection on a cold April afternoon. There’s a subtle drizzle misting our eyes on the way to the Visitors Center. We’re all layered up and prepared for a day outside in this Spring Pittsburgh weather. Smiles abound and conversation flowing, we begin our journey down the stone staircase and into the trees of Riverview Park. The trail is winding and narrow, the kind of tra

    Moving into Stillness

I've started dedicating my morning coffee time (or tea) to reading. Lately it's been reading a chapter each morning from Donna Farhi's book, Bringing Yoga to Life. (this little morning routine was shared with me by my friend Maggie, and as inspiring as it was, I wanted to share it with you, so easy!) Diving deeply into all things Yoga, as I like to do... I often think about the meaning behind our shapes we make in class, what the postures have to give us, and how I can ex

    Chakras & Chai

Happy December friends! I've got some new favorites and things going on that I want to share with you. Recipe, Yoga, Practice... recipe... >>I found my new favorite winter drink! GOLDEN MYLK CHAI - It's from the best Ayurveda cookbook I own, called Eat Feel Fresh by Sahara Rose Ketabi. It's pretty "crunchy" if you know what I mean... but a great gift for yourself if you're into seasonal clean eating for your Dosha ;) "GOLDEN MYLK CHAI 1 tsp ground turmeric 1/2 tsp cin

    MOONCOOKIE

    >>Tips for coming down with a cold (involves a cookie recipe) >>>The New Moon >>>>Yoga At least in Pittsburgh, it's been raining A LOT! A full two days straight then we got a little relief today. Not sure about you, but for me, consistent rain causes my sinuses to go nuts! In Ayurveda, we'd call this an abundance of Kapha energy (think cold & wet), and to balance that energy out I've been drinking a variety of spiced teas. Anywhere from Ginger & Turmeric to Cinnamon & Cloves

    Earth.

    >> 5 WAYS TO CONNECT TO THE EARTH << || EARTH VEGGIE RECIPE || I'm honoring the elements in my yoga classes... Earth, Water, Fire, Wind... we're so connected to them but rarely, if ever, stop to think about their qualities and how they relate to us. Let me invite you to tune into all things Earth... When I find myself so lost in thought and in my head that it feels like a loop and I can't think of anything else (and they're usually not great thoughts)..... that's the numb

    Backpacking 101

These are pretty normal things that the average adventurer may already know, but I didn't. So I'd like to share them with you in hopes that you'll feel super duper prepared for your next outing! Completely based off of my immediate experience which included fantastic fall weather & no major issues. Thanks for joining me as I replay the scenes from my backpacking trip last weekend in Dolly Sods, WV in my head and into words... -Sleeping in a hammock is tough. If you lay on you

5 Tips for Self-Care in the Winter

Winter Tips So you're going about your everyday (winter-adjusted) life and then the kind-of-expected-but-never-sure-when happens... you get sick. But you don't have to let it get you completely down. From the go-go-go perspective that most of us are still trying to keep up with from the warmer months, yes we may feel like our lives are coming to a halt! But if you've allowed yourself to settle a bit and have learned to take some time for yourself, when you get sick it wont fe

    Winter Transitions

The winter, at least home here in The Great Appalachian Valley, calls for cozy scarfs, wool socks, soft blankets, and lots of couch cuddling (& probably Netflix). Full hygge mode engaged. Winter also calls out for you to pay more attention to your body. To your needs, to your movements, to your sounds (think whistling noses or gurgling lungs), and to your head space - your thoughts - your emotions. Winter has this sweet way of letting you know it's OK to go inside, indoors as
